Pet Food Recall Fears Spread To Human Food Chain

Melamine now found in human food chain. First it was the pets, now we find it’s fed to shrimp, fish, and farm animals. Melamine and its related compound, is used to hold animal pellets together. It keeps them from disintegrating too quickly. 50 to 465 parts per million melamine us used in the production of these pellets. In pet food the levels where 20 parts per hundred.

Melamine is used in the plastics industry to hold stuff together. But dead dogs and cats promoted one of the largest recalls of pet food in history. Some U.S. companies are recalling some animal feed pellets containing Melamine and it’s related compounds ahead of FDA action to insure their responsibility.
